Beatles Camp August 9, 2019

On February 9th, 1964 popular music was changed forever when the Fab Four appeared on the Ed Sullivan show and won over the hearts of America’s youth. This week’s camp celebrates the music of the Beatles; arguably the most popular band in the history of pop music. Their catalog runs from the simplest of three-chord pop songs like “Twist and Shout” or “Love Me Do,” to far more complicated arrangements of conceptual medleys celebrating varied time signatures and complex chord voicings (think the entire last half of “Abbey Road”). The best part of all this, is that the music already lets this camp cater to players of all levels, from the earliest beginner to the seasoned rocker; all while providing each of our campers with an important piece of popular music history. With this camp, like many of our others, we’re committed to helping kids experience what playing in a band is really like, so portions of the latter days are dedicated to things like team building, poster design, album art, and the always daunting task of coming up with a band name. Campers should bring their own snacks and lunches during the week, with the exception of Thursday when we will order pizza for all the kids. Camp will conclude on Friday afternoon with a live performance of 5-10 songs here at the School.
